Our Virtual Teaching Assistants
There are three main ways to use the virtual assistants.
First, you can use an assistant on its own to complete a specific task. The assistants require almost no prompting. In ChatGPT, you simply click the center button, and in Gemini, you type “hello.” A menu of options will appear automatically. For example, a scaffolding assistant may offer dozens of ways to scaffold a text, while an assessment assistant can generate many different types of assessments. Some assistants are also designed to work immediately with very little setup, such as the Text Engineer, which quickly helps teachers simplify text, add vocabulary support, and improve comprehension.
Second, the assistants can be used together in workflows. A workflow is simply a sequence of assistants connected to complete a larger task. For example, a teacher might begin with a lesson-plan generator, then move to a text annotation assistant, then a scaffolding assistant, and finally an assessment generator. Different workflows support different classroom situations, and several common workflows are provided below as starting points.
Third, and perhaps most importantly, the assistants can be used as guides to the skills library itself. When a user uploads a document, essay, test question, or student work sample, or describes a situation in detail, the assistants identify the underlying skills needed to understand or complete the task. Those identified skills connect directly to the skills library, allowing users to immediately explore and learn the exact skills involved. In this way, the platform helps make hidden skills visible, because problems cannot be solved unless the necessary skills are first understood and developed.

For Teachers & Students
The virtual assistants are divided into three categories.
First, Skill Diagnosers identify the hidden skills inside a document, text, task, or student work. They show which skills are needed and link users to the matching skill modules. When a document is provided, the GPT analyzes the content for skills that are demonstrated, assessed, or targeted. It matches skills by meaning and evidence, not just by keyword. It uses the official skill names and web links from the uploaded master skills list. For each clearly supported skill, the GPT identifies the correct major category, provides the exact skill name, includes the skill’s web link, quotes a direct excerpt from the uploaded content, and gives a short explanation of why that excerpt shows the skill.
Second, Text Engineering and Scaffolding Assistants help make texts easier to teach and understand. These include tools like the Auto Annotator, Text Engineer, and Text Modifier.
Third, Generators create lessons, units, assessments, and other materials. They identify the skills in a document, ask which skill to focus on, and then build the resource around that skill.
